This is how the painting starts with a prepared canvas that has the metal leafing and stain applied over it...
Sometimes the painting on rice paper comes first...sometimes it is the prepared canvas that initiates the image to come... often the painting on rice paper is ripped apart in sections before it is applied on the canvas.
Here a new painting is coming along...with the torn apart bits of painting on rice paper and the stained tissue lying loosely on the surface of a white canvas

NEW PAINTING OF THE BAHAMAS. THE TINY ISLAND OF SPANISH WELLS, PART OF THE LARGER ISLAND CALLED ELEUTHERA.
SETTLED IN THE 1700'S BY IMMIGRANTS SEARCHING FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDON FROM THEIR NATIVE LANDS OF SCOTLAND AND ENGLAND. THE POPULATION HAS SURVIVED FOR ALL THIS TIME AS FISHERMEN, AND LOBSTERMEN.
